To Whom It May Concern,

Due to the prevalence of international toll fraud taking place in the telecommunications industry, MyTelepath is taking proactive steps to protect our valued customers and network from international toll fraud. MyTelepath is electing to disable all international dialing by default for all customers unless they opt-in to the service. By opting in to international service, the customer must acknowledge their acceptance by sending an email to tickets@mytelepath.com. There is no additional charge for having international service enabled on your account. However, international usage rates do apply.

Whether customers opt-in to international service or not, MyTelepath stresses the importance of verifying the security measures implemented around customers' handsets.  Customers who have been compromised and victims of toll fraud have been found to have:

  • Handsets on public IP addresses. (not firewalled)
  • Default passwords

These are just a couple of the fraud victim scenarios MyTelepath has seen, but there are many more.  Please ensure that your staff understands the risk of toll fraud, and implements proper security measures. This article from Network World is from 2009, but still paints a clear picture of toll fraud in the industry: http://www.networkworld.com/news/tech/2009/092909-tech-update.html

Again, if you call internationally, and wish to opt-in to international service, please send an email to tickets@mytelepath.com. Include your company name and that you would like to opt-in for international service. You must also indicate that you accept the potential risks of international toll calling.
